Service Description

Surgery is a treatment option for both uterine fibroids and adenomyosis, but the procedures and goals differ. Myomectomy removes fibroids, while adenomyomectomy (or partial hysterectomy) addresses adenomyosis. Hysterectomy is the only definitive treatment for adenomyosis, removing the uterus and eliminating the condition. Fibroids (Uterine Myomas) Myomectomy: This surgery removes fibroids while preserving the uterus. It's an option for women who want to maintain their fertility or avoid a hysterectomy. Laparoscopic Myomectomy: A minimally invasive approach, it can be performed through small incisions. Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE): This procedure blocks blood supply to fibroids, causing them to shrink and die. It's a less invasive alternative to surgery, often used for smaller fibroids. Medications: GnRH agonists and Ryeqo tablets can shrink fibroids before surgery or as a temporary treatment. Hysterectomy: This surgery removes the entire uterus and is considered when other treatments fail or when the patient doesn't want to have more children. Adenomyosis Adenomyomectomy: This procedure removes the adenomyotic tissue from the uterine wall. It's similar to myomectomy but targets the misplaced endometrial tissue. Hysterectomy: This is the only definitive treatment for adenomyosis, as it removes the uterus and eliminates the condition. Other Treatments: Hormonal medications, uterine artery embolization (UAE), and endometrial ablation can help manage symptoms but don't address the underlying condition.
